Pooping. Are you doing it wrong? This may sound like a joke, but I’ve found that most people don’t know much about doing the doo. They don’t know what a good one looks like, let alone how to have one.
Check out Mama Natural’s awesome video that mentions Step and Go!

Back when I was a new mom, I relied on adult conversation and “learning the ropes” from other newbie moms in our Mom’s Group. One thing we realized what that all of our conversations seem to lead to our babies and their bodily functions. Continue reading

So, let’s talk poop! As a momma and a nurse, this is a topic with which I am approached almost daily. Constipation, straining, not completely evacuating the bowel – these things can cause so many problems from tummy aches to hemorrhoids, but there are some simple solutions.
There have been two times in my life when I have had issues with constipation. The first time was when I first started following the Paleo Diet. It is completely normal to have some digestive issues when making a major dietary change, and after a few weeks, my body regulated itself as I learned how to get enough fiber from sources other than grains. Hallelujah! The other time is, unfortunately, occurring right now. I am 12 weeks pregnant, and for the past several weeks, eliminating my bowels has, once again, become a chore. (Too much information, I know!) Like making a drastic dietary change, it is completely normal to struggle with constipation during pregnancy; however, just because it’s normal, doesn’t mean I can’t try to figure out something to do about it!

I must say, I was skeptical. A local entrepreneur was touting a new product, Step and Go, which is supposed to help you, well, help you poop better.
It’s all with the use of a step that goes around the base of your toilet and essentially you step on it and squat. It’s supposed to be better for your health. Actually, it is, and it does work.
Meanwhile, there’s been a lot of talk floating around lately about proper elimination and bathroom posture. Squatting to poop is nothing new, but our modern day toilets don’t allow us to squat when going to the bathroom. If you visit other countries though, particularly in Asia, you can walk into a bathroom and still find a hole in the floor in which to poop. Traditionally, it’s the way we’ve always pooped and anatomically, it makes a lot more sense. If you ask me, it’s more comfortable too.
